Baselayer boost for Rugby World Cup

15/09/2011
Following their announcement at the start of the Rugby World Cup on September 9 that sports brand Canterbury and polymer and fibre manufacturer Invista had combined to puts Lycra Sport into the shirts that five of the 20 teams at the event are wearing for matches, the two companies have now revealed that players are also benefiting from work they have done together on baselayer garments.

Players from all the Canterbury-sponsored teams (South Africa, the US, Russia, Japan and Scotland) also have access to the brand’s Mercury Compression baselayer garments and have been wearing them for training, competition and recovery.

The companies say the inclusion of Lycra Sport in the fabric mix enables the Mercury collection to meet demanding standards for elongation, fit and recovery power.

At the time of the announcement, Julien Born, global segment director for Invista’s Activewear and Outdoor segment, commented: “We always look forward to seeing Lycra Sport fabrics being tested in the toughest of conditions. There is hardly a better stage than the Rugby World Cup to prove the high performance of garments and fabrics.”

The 2011 Rugby World Cup 2011 is taking place in New Zealand until October 23.
