Sudan: cotton production could double
The Sudanese government is aiming to increase the importance of cotton in the country, as stated in a report issued from the Administration Board of the Sudan Cotton Company.
The government has also put attractive policies on cultivating cotton crop to rebound its position in the national economy.
Sudan Cotton company plans to cultivate 800,000 acres in the season 2012-2013 instead of 400,000 cultivated acres in the current season 2011-2012 in both the irrigated and rain-irrigated sectors, according to the report listed by the director of the company, Dr. Abdeen Mohammad Ali , in the company’s annual meeting.
Significant progress has already been made, with profits rising to $6.8 million in 2009-2010 compared to $4.4 million in the year 2008-2009, an increase of 36.2%.
