German apparel company Rabe Moden has worked with research and testing organisation The Hohenstein Institute to win the right to put Skin-Friendly and Allergy-Friendly labels on its clothing.

Lower Saxony-based Rabe Moden has been testing its products for harmful substances under the requirements for the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 for a number of years now. But founder, Jörg Weber, wanted further certification because of what he calls the trend among consumers to seek out high-quality and sustainable products.

Tests carried out by The Hohenstein Institute examined the effects of the complete product on the skin. “Living cells are used for this, to ensure that the results are as realistic as possible,” Hohenstein has explained. “The products being tested must have no harmful effect at all on the cells if the certification is to be awarded.”
