Polymer and fibre producer Invista has awarded James Goddard the Male Swimmer of the Year Award at the Splash Awards, held in the UK on Friday 16 September to honour athletes who excel in aquatic sports.

Michèle Duncan, Invista’s marketing manager for intimate apparel and swimwear in the UK said: “For the fourth consecutive year Invista has supported the Splash Awards, having presented awards to Sharron Davies, Jenna Randall and Rebecca Adlington in previous years. At Invista, we are proud to celebrate leading players in their field and we are therefore very pleased to bestow the Male Swimmer of the Year Award on James Goddard in recognition of his outstanding performances over the last twelve months. We wanted to award him for what has already been an outstanding career, and with many years of athletic excellence in his future.

“James consistently sets a great standard of stamina and determination for younger generations, and is a fantastic example of talent in British swimming.”

Held in London, the Splash Awards were created six years ago in support of the Swimming Trust and British Olympic Foundation. The event was hosted by Olympic Medallist Steve Parry and he was joined on stage to present awards by the founder of the awards and world champion Karen Pickering, Olympic Medallists Sharron Davies and Andy Jameson, and former English footballer Mark Bright.

Other recipients of awards included the team from “The Swim” who won the Splash Star Award for completing a charity swim across the Irish Sea.

James Goddard said: “I’m very honoured to have won Male Swimmer of the Year at the 2011 Speedo Splash Awards. Not only does this award acknowledge all the hard work I’ve done throughout my career, but it also recognises great aquatics talent in Britain, which is so important, particularly in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics.”
