Cotton farmers in western China’s Xinjiang province are having difficulty finding enough labourers to harvest their crop after wages rose and the price of cotton fell, the China Daily has reported.

Labour costs have increased this year to at least $0.30 for every kilogram of cotton picked, from $0.20 in 2010, the newspaper reported, citing local farmers. The price of cotton has fallen to $1.30 per kilogram from $1.70, according to the report.
