India: cotton review to be held on Nov 15
The Indian Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) will review the status of the country’s cotton production this season at its meeting in Mumbai on November 15, following reports of both crop loss and record cotton production in various parts of the country.
CAB consists of representatives of the government, cotton growers, traders, exporters and textile industries. At its last meeting in August, the Board had projected India’s cotton output for the current season that started on October 1, 2011 at 35.5 million bales (1 bale = 170 kg) compared to cotton production of 32.5 million bales achieved in 2010-11 season.
Speaking at the World Cotton Research Conference, textiles commissioner AB Joshi said there are reports of both higher output and crop loss from different places.
