Pakistan: manufacturer predicts sportswear exports to double

11/11/2011

Pakistan’s exports of sportswear are expected to double following growing demand in international markets, a textile manufacturer has said.

Talking to local media, Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Central Chairman for Sialkot, Ejaz A Khokhar, said that due to diversification of manpower in China, buyers of European countries were facing inordinate delay in shipments and increases in prices.

Owing to this situation, the European importers have been shifting their orders to Pakistan, he said. “This is giving a boost to sportswear exports from Pakistan,” he said. “Demand for Pakistani sportswear has increased in Europe as European people are sports conscious.”

Mr Khokhar said that a change in attitude of European buyers could be a big opportunity. In this regard, his said the government should give special incentives to exporters of sportswear and readymade garments.
