OIA to offer industry insight from China at its 2012 conference
17/11/2011
The OIA has secured as a keynote speaker for the conference Roger Zeng, the president and founder of China Outdoor Retailer Association (CORA).
On 12 March, delegates will have the opportunity to try out a range of outdoor activities. Assorted sponsored athletes and guides from OIA members will be on hand to lead, encourage and instruct in rock climbing, bouldering, hill walking and mountain biking. People of all abilities are encouraged to participate.
The outdoor activities will be followed by the OIA’s formal annual general meeting, then networking and dinner. The conference will take place on the following day and will see a packed programme of speakers, debates and interactive workshops, exploring in detail some of the opportunities and challenges that are facing the outdoor industries in the UK.
Roger Zeng will address the conference, providing delegates with an insight into the Chinese outdoor market, which is growing at over 35% a year and is already the sixth largest in the world. Educated in China and North America, Roger Zeng founded Beijing-based distributor Snowpeak and in 2005 set up CORA.
A second key speaker at the conference will be Mark Held, secretary general and co-founder of the European Outdoor Group (EOG). He will present the results of a three-year project researching what is selling in Europe. The work has involved over 100 brands, across all product groups. The final report is confidential and only available in full to brands that have participated, so this may be the only chance that many people in the UK market have to see some of the results.
