ITMF says global fabric production fell in Q2

18/11/2011
The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has published a report on the state of the international market for the second quarter of 2011. Global fabric production was down for the quarter compared to the same months in 2010 and although estimates for both yarn and fabric production are negative for the third quarter, the outlook for the fourth quarter is positive in both cases.

According to the Swiss-based organisation higher output in Asia in general and China in particular meant global yarn production increased there in the second quarter of 2011 in comparison to the previous quarter, but it pointed out that the first quarter of the year usually records lower production figures in China because of the holiday for Lunar New Year. Global fabric production rose, again thanks to to higher output in Asia as well as in South America. Production in Europe and North America fell.
