Sports interest in designer outlet idea

A number of sports and outdoor brands are reported to be in talks to become tenants of London’s first designer outlet, a retail facility selling big-name goods at discount prices, which could open in 2013.

Discount outlets are usually developed in out-of-town areas to protect the full-price operations big brands usually run in downtown locations. The London Designer Outlet is planned for a site well away from high-end shopping areas such as Oxford Street, but what is of particular interest to the sports market is that, if it goes ahead, it will be near Wembley Stadium.

Major brands who are reported to be interested in taking up space at the facility include Superdry, Skechers and Nike. There could be as many as 85 shops in all, along with 15 restaurants and cafes, and a cinema
