Evonik announces polyamide 12 expansion plans

The group is significantly expanding its Marl plant in North Rhine-Westphalia where it produces the polymer at the moment. In addition the executive board has now approved planning for a large new polyamide 12 production facility in Asia.
Expansion at Marl will add an estimated capacity of 5,000 tonnes and is expected to be complete in the course of 2012. The Asian facility, which will provide an extra polyamide 12 capacity of 20,000 tonnes, is scheduled for completion within three years.
Dahai Yu, a member of Evonik’s executive board with responsibility for the specialty materials segment, said on announcing the news: “We plan to consolidate our leading position in polyamide 12 for the long term. We’re relying here on growth in the established markets as well as in emerging regions like Asia.”
