TNF climbers prepare for Nanga Parbat expedition

Simone Moro from Italy and Denis Urubko from Kazakhstan travelled to Pakistan to begin on December 26 their attempt to complete the first winter ascent to the summit of Nanga Parbat, which 8125 metres up into the the Himalayas.
The North Face-sponsored alpinists, who successfully completed the first winter ascent of Gasherbrum II (8025m) in February 2011, will be joined by Italian photographer Matteo Zanga. Zanga, based at the Nanga Parbat base camp, will send updates on the progress of the expedition. This will give the opportunity to all the outdoors enthusiasts to follow them in real time through the official The North Face communication channels.
Among the kit Moro and Urubko have taken on the expedition is the new light and breathable Meru Gore jacket and bibs. On the higher altitudes, the climbers will use the new Shaffle jacket and the Himalayan suit.
Located in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan, Nanga Parbat is the ninth highest mountain in the world and the second highest peak in Pakistan. First climbed by an Austrian alpinist Hermann Buhl in 1953, Nanga Parbat is also known as Killer Mountain, it is considered one of the most difficult to climb and has been the most attempted 8,000-metre peak in winter since 1989.
