A new report from the Japan Cotton Traders’ Association suggests that the 2011 crop of organic cotton in the US was between 10% and 15% higher than the amount of organic cotton the country produced in 2009.

Quoting a survey carried out by the US Department of Agriculture, the report said prices of between $1.40 and $2 per pound of cotton had encouraged organic farmers to grow the fibre.

The US organic cotton crop in 2010 was just under 13,000 bales, a 5.1% increase on the previous year.
