Optimer asks students to design winter sports clothes
12/01/2012
Participating students were invited to submit new designs for a garment system for outdoor winter sports, concentrating on the area from the waist up, using drirelease fabrics, which Optimer markets. Designs must incorporate thermoregulation, body mobility, fastening systems, increased bodily function, and chemical or impact features.
Finalists will have their designs on show at the Optimer booth at the exhibition. Winners will be selected using two voting mechanisms: a ‘people’s choice’ winner, for which all visitors to Outdoor Retailer are encouraged to cast a vote, and a judge’s panel winner, selected by a panel of outdoor apparel experts from well-known brands including Eastern Mountain Sports and Lole.
“Winter sports represent a unique challenge for apparel companies due to long periods of sustained physical exertion in temperatures that require multiple layers to enable optimal performance, managing moisture from the inside (sweat) and outside (snow, rain),” said Christine Przybylinksi, director of marketing for drirelease, in the build-up to the event. “This contest will not only help to showcase the versatility of our product, but also provide fantastic exposure for a select group of young, talented designers that can translate into future internship or full-time job opportunities.”
