Howies returns to independent status
Wales-based apparel brand Howies has become an independent entity after its management bought out the firm from its owners, VF Corporation.
In 2006, Howies was sold to Timberland. Subsequently, Timberland was acquired by VF Corporation. In December 2011 the management of Howies showed interest in buying the brand and an agreement was reached in January 2012.
Howies said it was one of the smallest of VF’s brands and the management felt that returning back to independent status would be good for its business. It added that the firm had performed independently when it was under Timberland’s ownership, which would now keep it in good stead.
The company said there has not been a major change, in terms of continuity, and the response from customers has been positive. Howies currently employs around 30 people in Cardigan, Wales. It now plans to expand into Europe by launching e-commerce sites for the German and French markets.
The company would be soon unveiling a new range of sportswear, including a jacket for cyclists.
