New lightweight zip from YKK

Fastening products manufacturer YKK launched “a new zipper concept” at ispo 2012 at the end of January.

Ultra Light Zipper, the name of the new product, is being developed to answer the ongoing lightweight trend in sports and outdoor apparel, the company said in the days following the Munich event.

It’s seamless, with the zipper chain being directly applied to a wide breathable membrane fabric, decreasing the weight of finished garments. YKK says the new zip is easy to pack.

It says the product will become available in a three-layer membrane up to 180 millimetres wide, allowing it to be used as a “closed-end fastening solution”, ideal for pit-zips, half-front zippers and for pockets in outdoor jackets and other garments.

Johnny de Boer, marketing manager for the European high-tech division at YKK, said after ispo: “We have been working on this product to answer our customers’ key demand for lighter weight apparel, and we are very happy with garments that are already developed using the Ultra Light Zipper concept by Mammut and Millet. We are hoping to roll out this concept in the market soon.”
