Home retail chain Canadian Tire has reported a 21% increase in its revenues for the fourth quarter of its business year, reaching $3.1 billion, up from $2.6 billion a year earlier.

The company received a boost from its acquisition in May of sporting goods group Forzani, owner of some of the country’s most recognised sports retail brands, including
Sport Chek and Sports Experts, and 500 retail outlets across the country. More than 70% of Forzani’s sales are in athletic apparel and footwear.

Sales in these stores went up by 3.8% in the quarter.
