Mount Fuji inspires trail shoe collection

Sports brand ASICS has included three new models of trail running shoes in its spring-summer 2012 footwear collection. All shoes in the collection offer high levels of water release, midfoot stability and grip, the company said at the time of the launch, as well as being lightweight.

Mount Fuji is the inspiration for all three designs and, together, the shoes are called the Fuji collection. They have a special logo in reflective material from 3M and each model has the name of Japan’s highest and most famous mountain in its name: they are called Fujiracer, Fujiattack and Fujitrainer.

In an average men’s size, each Fujiracer shoe weighs 245 grammes, making it the lightest trail running shoe ASICS has produced to date. Midfoot stability is provided by a system that uses hard rubber instead of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), which the company normally uses in its running shoes. It says the new harder rubber compound delivers “a more fitting midfoot stability” for trail running.
