The company employs 220 people in its research and development department, 200 of them in France. Over the past four years, it has spent a combined total of almost EUR 70 million on research, EUR 18.2 million (almost 9% of total revenues) in 2011 alone.
Chief executive, Daniel Harari, has said that a decision Lectra made in 2005 to keep its research and development and production in France has enabled it to increase its competitiveness, boost its margins and protect its intellectual property.
On the appointment of Laurent Alt, Mr Harari said the move would help Lectra strengthen its position because Mr Alt has in-depth experience of computer assisted design and product lifecycle management applications, two of the main focus areas for Lectra.
On accepting the role, Mr Alt, whose previous companies include rival technology provider Dassault Systèmes, said: “Few companies have the courage to reinforce their research and development investments in the midst of difficult times.”
