Helly Hansen wins protective pouch contract

Outdoor brand Helly Hansen has won a contract from Canada’s Department of National Defence to manufacture an inflatable life preserver, the Maritime Pouch, for navy personnel.

The device is a protective pouch worn on a belt around the waist. It is easily accessible, but at the same time doesn’t obstruct the user's movement. In the event of an emergency, the life preserver is removed from the pouch, positioned around the neck and manually inflated.

Helly Hansen will make an initial run of 1,800 pouches at its factory in Burnside in Nova Scotia.
