Sustainable textiles conference to be held in Hong Kong

The joint organisers of the annual Planet Textiles event on sustainability, Messe Frankfurt and Ecotextile News, have teamed up with the Textile Exchange to organise a two-day Sustainable Textiles Conference in Hong Kong from 4-5 October, 2012.

Two events, Planet Textiles and the Textile Exchange Annual Conference, will come together in Hong Kong to run a joint event alongside Messe Frankfurt’s long-established Interstoff Asia Essentials fabric sourcing exhibition.

The event, which will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of Textile Exchange (formerly Organic Exchange) and the 20-year milestone of Interstoff Asia Essential, will be held at the Wan Chai Exhibition Centre.

“After its successful conclusion in Shanghai in 2011, Planet Textiles decided to team up with Textile Exchange to run one single regional event this year. It is sure to be a huge success and will no doubt attract very high quality speakers,” said Bernd Mueller, project director, Messe Frankfurt. “However, in 2013, we plan to run Planet Textiles once again in Shanghai alongside Intertextile.”

“Rather than running two separate conferences around the same time, we decided it was more sensible to run one single ‘mega event’ in the region,” said John Mowbray from Ecotextile News. “Hong Kong is still a major sourcing base for brands and retailers, and because it is close to the major textile manufacturing hubs of southern China, it’s an ideal opportunity for brands and retailers to convene here around environmental issues.”
