Mozambique success for Portuguese sports brand

The national football team of Mozambique and seven of the African country’s first division clubs are switching their shirt supplier deals to Portuguese brand Lacatoni. António Soares, Lacatoni’s founder, has told media in Portugal that the deal would last for four years.

Mr Soares said his company planned to open a factory in Mozambique in the short-to-medium term to manufacture sports apparel to serve the local market and the regional market in southern Africa.

Mozambique’s football connections to Portugal are strong. The player who helped Portugal to its best ever finish in a FIFA World Cup tournament (third place in England in 1966), Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, was born in Mozambique and began his career there.
