New Chamonix store a highlight for Quiksilver

Specialist surf and winter sports brand Quiksilver has announced operating results for the first fiscal quarter of its current business year, the quarter ending January 31 2012.

Revenues grew by 5% over the period to $449.6 million, the company said, on which it achieved earnings before tax of $19.5 million. There was, however, a net loss of $28.2 million after tax and other charges.

Chief executive, Robert McKnight, commented: “We’re very pleased with our solid first quarter results. Our top-line growth was driven by continued strong retail performance with positive comparable store sales. We’ve known for some time that the first half of fiscal 2012 would present some challenges to our business given the higher sourcing costs we began to encounter in the second half of 2011. But despite these pressures, demand for our products remains strong in both established and emerging markets.”

Quiksilver is active in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific and said it had achieved revenue-growth this quarter in all three regions for the first time since the second quarter of fiscal 2008.

Another highlight it pointed to for this most recent quarter was the opening of its first mountain boardriders’ store in Chamonix. “The new shop in the heart of the French Alps offers a diverse line of products representing each of the company’s brands including a complete winter sports clothing collection, snowboards and boots, accessories, eyewear, watches, and in-season casuals,” it said.
