Under Armour congratulates Six Nations champions

US sports brand Under Armour has sent a message of congratulations to the Welsh national rugby team on securing the Six Nations championship for 2012 on March 17. In addition, this year Wales won a Grand Slam, beating all five other European teams in the championship: Ireland, Scotland, Italy, England and France.

After the team’s final match of the championship, a 16-9 victory over France in Cardiff, Under Armour issued a message congratulating Wales on “crushing the competition”.

Under Armour made its first venture into rugby with a four-year sponsorship deal with the Welsh national team in 2008. The deal was for an initial four-year period. “The Welsh Rugby Union, with its 130 years of tradition and heritage, is an essential part of the lifeblood of the country. And, in recent years, it has given rugby fans much to celebrate,” the company says.

The shirts the company has made for the Welsh team incorporates four-way stretch material that Under Armour has used previously in its products for ice hockey and American football. It also has moisture-wicking functionality and strategically placed ventilation zones.
