G-III to take Calvin Klein Performance stores to China

22/03/2012
G-III Apparel Group, which makes licensed apparel for a number of professional sports teams as well as brands including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, has entered into a joint-venture agreement with a partner in China, China Ting Group Holdings Limited, to open and operate Calvin Klein Performance retail stores in China and Hong Kong. The partners expect to begin operating at retail locations in major Chinese markets starting in autumn 2012.

G-III agreed a wholesale licence for Calvin Klein Performance womenswear in 2007. In December 2011, the company announced that it had entered into a retail store agreement with Calvin Klein to open Calvin Klein Performance stores for the sale of women’s Calvin Klein Performance apparel in the US, China, and Hong Kong. The first Calvin Klein Performance store opened in the US in February at Scottsdale Quarter in Scottsdale, Arizona.

With regard to how the performance apparel will go down in the Chinese market, Ting Hung Yi, chief executive of China Ting, said he believed that the range would resonate with a wide range of female consumers throughout China. Clothes include tops and trousers for yogawear, jogging and running trousers (including some with compression) and a wide range of sweat tops and T-shirts.
