Tanatex to take Be Green message to Turkey

Specialist textile chemicals manufacturer Tanatex has announced that it will work with Turkish distributor SPOT Tekstil AS at the ITM Texpo Eurasia 2012 event in Istanbul in April to raise awareness of environmental initiatives in the textile industry.

At the exhibition, which runs from April 21-24, Tanatex and SPOT will demonstrate the chemicals manufacturer's Be Green concept, an energy- and water-saving bleaching concept that Tanatex first announced in October 2010.

"As the world’s most valuable resources are becoming scarce, bleaching cellulosics to obtain a high quality standard, via an environmentally friendly method, saving energy and decreasing water consumption has become the latest challenge in textile processing," Tanatex said in the build-up to the Istanbul event. "Be Green is an environment-friendly pretreatment concept to face this challenge."

It explained that the wet application of textiles requires huge amounts of water, energy and harsh chemicals. As most of the processes run at high temperatures, high consumption of gas is needed for generating steam and water heating. This results in a high CO2 emission.

Be Green, in contrast, ensures bleaching at only 75°C instead of the more usual 95°C - 98°C. Reducing the
temperature immediately reduces the consumption of methane gas and therefore the emission of
CO2. The concept consists of two products: Tanasperse BE, and Tanede Green. It is suitable for all cellulosics and cellulosic blends, the company has said.
