Kathmandu opens flagship NZ store

New Zealand outdoor brand Kathmandu will open one of its biggest New Zealand stores in Newmarket on 28 March, 2012.

Kathmandu began paying rent on the site late in 2011 and had hoped to open the store, which has an internal escalator between the ground and upper floors, in time for Christmas. But chief executive Peter Halkett said design issues had pushed the opening date back to March.

“We've chosen Newmarket for the location of what you would typically call a flagship store,” Mr Halkett said. “It is a prime market for us with the type of customers that live and shop in that area.”

Kathmandu released its interim result recently, revealing a 42% slump in net profit.

Kathmandu operates 40 stores in New Zealand, with a further 70 in Australia and six in the UK.
