Hansjörg Auer’s achievements include free solo ascents of Il Pesce on the south face of the Marmolada in the Italian Dolomites in 2007, and the first free ascent of ‘Hallucinogen Wall’ in Black Canyon, Colorado in 2011.
Joint general manager of EOCA, Tanya Bascombe, said on making the announcement: “We are thrilled to welcome Hansjörg to the team. He is a dedicated and inspiring athlete, full of enthusiasm for life yet also passionate about the impact that we have on the environment around us. He will be a great asset to the association and we look forward to working with him very much.”
In response, Hansjörg Auer said he was delighted with the role, and added: “I love the EOCA model. It is a neutral organisation, working together with the biggest outdoor brands to protect nature, something we all need to be doing. We have to think about the sustainability of what we are doing in our everyday lives, and being part of EOCA is a massive step in the right direction.”
EOCA’s other two ambassadors are Scottish fell-runner and climber Es Tresidder and Norwegian polar explorer Rune Gjeldnes.
