A conference to bring people across the industry up to date on the impact of clothing on the New Dynamics of Aging research programme at the University of Wales Newport’s Smart Clothes and Wearable Technology Research Centre took place in London on March 27.

Under the title Wearable Futures Inclusive Design, the conference had keynote presentations on attitudes towards older people in the fashion industry and on the future of wearable technology.

Mark Held, secretary general of the European Outdoor Group, gave an outline of the outdoor industry before marketing specialist Claudia Bösl addressed the specific area of participation in outdoor activities of older people and the industry’s response to their particular clothing and footwear tastes and needs.

Break-out sessions in the afternoon covered demographic questions surrounding Europe’s aging population, design innovation and wearable technology.

Bonding technology specialist Bemis was one of the sponsors.
