Dow Polyurethanes gears up for growth

11/04/2012
The Dow Chemical Company has predicted strong growth for its Polyurethanes business unit in the next three-to-five years.

In keeping with this, Dow has appointed Dr Mark Bassett as the global vice-president who will run the business unit, describing him as a proven business leader with a technology-rich background and experience running integrated businesses.

Another significant development is a new world-scale manufacturing complex for polyurethanes in Saudi Arabia, which is planned to come online in 2016. Announced in July 2011, the new plant is a joint-venture between Dow and oil company Saudi Aramco. Known as Sadara Chemical Company, the new plant will be the largest single chemical complex ever built with over 3 million tonnes of capacity.
