Nike and Reebok settle Tim Tebow fight

11/04/2012

Sportswear companies Nike and Reebok have settled their legal fight over Tim Tebow apparel, after the latter agreed to stop selling the New York Jets quarterback’s Bronco t-shirts and jerseys.

The terms of a settlement with Nike were disclosed on 10 April, 2012. Reebok must eliminate from the sales chain any Tim Tebow clothing it manufactured after the quarterback’s trade in March from the Denver Broncos to the Jets, US media has reported.

Nike had sued in Manhattan, saying Reebok was infringing on its licensing rights. A federal judge had said Nike was likely to succeed. It took over licensing rights for National Football League apparel at the beginning of April.

Nike spokeswoman Mary Remuzzi said the company was “pleased to have reached a mutually agreeable resolution”.
