US brand launches footwear design competition

13/04/2012

US-based sportswear company, Power Force Apparel has launched a shoe-designing competition in which the top prize is $25,000.

Power Force has described the contest as another move against the trend of using athletes and stars to design shoes. The brand said the design must be an original men’s or women’s athletic shoe that is “innovative, and unique, unlike any other design that is out there right now”.

“Power Force wants to recognise everyday people who are doing extraordinary things and give those with talent the opportunity to make their creativity a reality,” a statement from the company said.

The top design will win its designer a $25,000 prize. Second place will win $15,000 and third place will get $10,000. Also, the first-place winner’s design will become a part of the Power Force Apparel shoe line and will be named after its designer.

The top three winning designers will be flown to New York for the Fashion Footwear Association of New York Shoe Expo.

The contest ends May 4, 2012.
