Evonik adds new facility as demand for biopolymers keeps increasing

18/04/2012
German chemicals manufacturer Evonik has announced steps that it says will safeguard supply of the specialty compounds it needs to make its Vestamid Terra biopolymers.

This product line offers a broad range of what Evonik describes as “renewably sourced high-performance polyamides whose properties are comparable with strictly oil-based polyamides”. It says Vestamid Terra is used in innovative, high-quality products for a range of industries including sports.

An additional compounding facility will become operative in the third quarter of 2012 to help the company make sure it can meet the needs of existing and new customers. The new facility will be at Evonik’s Shanghai plant. Plans are also in place for expanding the site’s capacity for polymerisation.

“Demand for renewably sourced materials has risen substantially in recent years,” Evonik said on making the announcement.
