EOCA announces public vote for outdoor project funding

19/04/2012
Sustainability campaign group the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) has named three projects chosen by the public to receive funding from the association this year. An exercise to encourage outdoor enthusiasts to choose which projects they considered most deserving of financial help attracted more than 55,000 votes.

The three winning projects are the Hnuti Duha Olomouc project, which works to conserve wildlife in the Carpathian mountains in eastern Europe, the Steall Gorge path repair project in Scotland and a UK coastal conservation project called Surfers Against Sewage.

Each will receive funding of up to €30,000 from EOCA.

Catherine Savidge, joint-general manager of EOCA, said  on announcing the result: “This was an incredibly exciting process, with the top projects in each category vying for poll position during the voting period. We now very much look forward to funding these three worthwhile projects and reporting back on their successes in the coming 12–24 months.”

The member companies of EOCA are currently voting on a further series of projects that will receive funding this year from EOCA. The winners in this case will be announced at the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen in July.
