SGS accreditation means it can offer textile companies help in Egypt

Swiss-based inspection, verification, testing and certification company SGS has won accreditation to offer its services in Egypt.

Egypt’s General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) has accredited SGS as a third-party provider of inspection services. When exporting products to Egypt it is necessary to comply with the country’s quality and safety standards, SGS explained on announcing the development.

Towards the end of 2011, the Egyptian ministry of trade and industry issued a decree requiring an inspection certificate for every shipment of textiles, garments and dyed and coloured yarns imported into Egypt.

Two certification schemes are available to comply with these requirements. SGS argues that the first of these is easier for any company in the textile industry shipping apparel or raw material for the apparel industry to Egypt. It is to have each consignment undergo an inspection at origin and approved by an accredited third party, such as SGS.

The other option is for the importer to register with GOEIC and supply detailed documentation on the goods and where and how they were produced. This registration would only be valid for six months.
