New scientific panel for EOCA

02/05/2012
The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) has set up a panel of scientific experts to help it choose the conservation projects that it will help support. Four scientists have agreed to take part.

Professor Martin Price, director of the centre for mountain studies at Perth College, University of the Highlands and Islands, in Scotland has become the scientific advisor to the association on mountain projects and issues. Jonny Hughes, director of conservation for the Scottish Wildlife Trust will advise on projects with a wetland theme and species-specific projects. Professor Charles Sheppard,  professor at the school of life sciences at Warwick University, will advise on marine projects and issues, while Dr Nick Brown, forestry lecturer at Oxford University will provide support on forestry projects and issues.

John Jansen, acting president of EOCA, said on making the announcement:  “As EOCA becomes better known we are receiving an increasing number of project funding applications, with 74 applying this year alone. The standard of the projects is very high indeed, which makes the process of shortlisting the projects a rewarding but difficult one. We are delighted to welcome our Scientific Panel of experts and we very much look forward to being able to draw on their expertise.”
