Swiss Textile Federation reports a fall in exports for 2011

04/05/2012
In its annual report for 2011, the Swiss Textile Federation said that the industry there achieved exports worth just less than 3 billion Swiss francs (CHF), a 2% decline compared to the year before. This figure covers the value of exports for textiles and garments, with textiles contributing slightly more (52.2% of the total).

Within the textiles category, technical textiles (including special yarns and laminated fabrics) contributed the most, with values of more than 580 CHF. Woven and knitted fabrics earned just over 470 million CHF, while the figure for standard yarns (spun from synthetic fibres, cotton, wool and silk) was 222 million CHF.

In the garments category, the contribution to the total of outerwear was just over 1 billion CHF, with underwear and garment accessories accounting for another 370 million CHF between them.

The Federation said the high value of the Swiss franc and the continuing de-industrialisation of Switzerland were the reasons for the fall in export earnings.
