China aims to double textile output in a decade
11/05/2012
Textiles had an industrial output value of more than $800 billion in 2011.
China aims to increase textile and clothing exports by an annual rate of about 7%, the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) said.
Rising demand will help speed up the transformation of the textile industry in China, the organisation said, by boosting innovation and branding to drive high-end industrial development.
Domestically, it expects Chinese spending on clothing to grow by an average 12.5% year-on-year in the 2011-2020 period among the urban population, while rural residents will increase their spending by 15% annually. In 2011, Chinese urban citizens spent $265.8 per person on clothing, up 15.9% on the 2010 level, while people in rural areas spent 29.5% more compared to the previous year.
