NAT to blend Crailar with Lenzing fibres

14/05/2012

Naturally Advanced Technologies (NAT), which produces and markets Crailar, a natural fibre made from flax and other bast fibers, has signed a joint development agreement with Austria-based Lenzing Group.

The two companies will explore ways of blending Crailar with Lenzing’s Tencel and Lenzing Modal fibres.

The fibre manufacturers will combine their water absorption and wicking knowhow to create a fibre that can be used to produce athletic and sport performance apparel.

Ken Barker, chief executive officer at NAT, said: "With Lenzing, we can now evaluate the opportunity to expand the host fibres with which Crailar can blend to identify new performance attributes, applications and industries."

Peter Bartsch, head of marketing apparel at Lenzing, said: "With Crailar Flax and the applications that we have discussed to-date, we look forward to taking advantage of its unique attributes, and to extending the range of products we can introduce with Crailar Flax to our global brand partners."
