New yarn can help keep athletes cool, Nilit claims
01/06/2012
Available in specially textured and flat nylon 6.6 yarns, Breeze fabrics have been “proven to cool wearers by almost one degree Celsius in comparison to fabrics knitted with standard fibres”, Nilit said on making the announcement, adding that textile research centre Centexbel had carried out independent testing on the product.
The yarn’s cooling effect comes from a special cross-section, the insertion of an inorganic additive in the polymer itself and a special texturing process. This combination gives fabrics efficient ventilation capabilities as well protective properties against ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The technology is patent-pending.
