United Textiles opens Fujairah yarn plant

Ruler of Fujairah, UAE, Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, has officially opened United Textiles’ new yarn manufacturing unit in the region.

The new facility has an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of yarn and its spinning plant, which uses high-tech Swiss and German technologies, has a capacity of 45,600 spindles.

According to the company, the new plant is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and the Gulf. It cost AED225 million ($61.3 million), raised in part through government investment from Azerbaijan and Fujairah, and will create 20 senior management positions for local workers.

United Textiles’ chief executive Rajkumar Kak said the yarn would be used to make sportswear, workwear and casual apparel, as well as furnishing fabrics.

Annual turnover is expected to be around AED140 million.
