Vietnam has exceeded its fibre, textile and garment export target for the first half of the year.

Exports for the sector were expected to rise 6% year-on-year to $7.5 billion, but actually grew 12% to $7.9 billion.

"This reflected great efforts by the textile and apparel sector in the face of the global economic crisis," said Le Tien Truong, deputy director-general of the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex).

Exports to the US grew 15% during the six-month period, while exports to Japan and South Korea rose 23% and 26%, respectively.
