21/06/2012
As the Euro 2012 football tournament in Ukraine and Poland entered the knock-out stages on June 21, sports brand adidas announced that it expects to achieve more than EUR 1.6 billion in football sales during 2012, beating its own record of EUR 1.5 billion in 2010, a FIFA World Cup year. At the time of the last European championships, in 2008, adidas’s football sales were EUR 1.3 billion.

On making the announcement, chief executive, Herbert Hainer, said his company was defending its title of being “the most successful football brand in the world”.

An example of this year’s successful football products, the company said, is the official match ball for the championship, the Tango 12. It expects to sell 7 million Tango 12 balls in the course of the year.
