Sporty summer merino at Icebreaker

22/06/2012

New Zealand-based merino brand Icebreaker has launched a new range of shorts, pants, featherweight tops, travel layers, high-protection jackets and technical sports garments for spring/summer 2013.

The range features the company’s first-ever woven shorts, made from 70% merino and 30% organic cotton for extra durability and shape.

Following the launch of its first line of soft shell jackets in autumn/winter 2012, Icebreaker has developed new soft shell jackets and vests to ward off rain and wind in spring and summer.

Debuting in the collection is the Willow range of featherweight tops for women, made from the lightest, finest merino Icebreaker has ever created.

The GT technical sports range has been extended with athletic styles for running, gym classes, cycling and other fitness activities. Performance innovations include the new GT150 ultralight technical base layer, a new eyelet-mesh weave for ventilation, and the Free Seam.

Inspired by endurance runners’ habit of turning shirts inside out to prevent seam chafing on long runs, the Free Seam uses reverse overlock stitching to expose the seam on the outside of garments rather than against the skin.

Rob Achten, Icebreaker creative director and vice president of product, said: "Merino is ideal for summer because it breathes to prevent overheating, resists odour, is exceptionally lightweight and feels beautifully soft against the skin.

"We’re constantly pushing the boundaries to see how we can use this incredible natural fibre in new and exciting ways."
