Textile output down in Germany

Berlin-based German Textile+Fashion Confederation expects the industry’s turnover to increase by around 3% in 2012 to reach a total of around EUR 29 billion.

In a recent report on the state of the industry, the organisation (an employers’ federation) said that employment in textiles and fashion in Germany increased by 2.7% between April 2011 and April 2012, taking the total number of people employed to 121,000.

However, compared to the same period in 2011, output from textile manufacturers was down by 6.6% in the first four months of this year, while that of clothing manufacturers decreased by 4.7%.
