Lenzing wins approval for new Tencel factory

04/07/2012
The authorities in Upper Austria have given fibre manufacturer Lenzing permission to build a new production plant for its Tencel product.

According to the company, the new factory will have the capacity to produce 67,000 tonnes of Tencel fibre per year and will create 110 new jobs, but it will be around two years before the new facility comes on stream. Lenzing will invest around EUR 130 million in the project.

It said its reasons for siting the new factory at its headquarters in Austria include “geographical proximity to the European growth market for Tencel, the attractive energy costs as a consequence of the company’s on-site power generation capabilities, and the availability of a sufficient pool of qualified personnel”.
