Evonik to build new PA12 plant in Singapore

06/07/2012
German chemicals manufacturer Evonik has announced that Singapore will be the location for a polyamide 12 (PA12) plant. PA12’s applications include sports equipment.

It said the new plant would begin production in 2014 and will have 20,000 tonnes of annual capacity. Fire-damage at an Evonik plant in Marl in Germany in March 2012 convinced the company to invest in a second facility. The Marl plant made CDT, a precursor to PA12. The Marl plant is still undergoing repair work and the company said it will be the fourth quarter of 2012 before it is operational again.

Evonik said the new Singapore plant would also bring it closer to its customers in Asia.
