US Olympic gear to be made in America
Following reports that American athletes would
be wearing outfits that were made in China for the Olympics, politicians campaigned
for future Olympic garments to be made domestically.
US senator Kirsten Gillibrand and congressman
Steve Israel called on the US Olympic Committee to produce all uniforms for
Team USA at future Olympics to be in America. Manufacturing the Olympic
garments in America could contribute $1 billion into the US economy, they claim.
Senator Gillibrand said: "When America’s best athletes are
representing our country on the world stage, we should be representing the best
of American-made goods.
"The pride of our Olympic athletics goes hand in hand with
the pride of American innovation and manufacturing.
"We shouldn’t be going to the world stage with anything
less. From head to toe, Team USA must be made in America."
