Thai textile exports predicted to fall

17/07/2012
Industry sources in Thailand have predicted a considerable decline in textile and clothing exports from there in 2012. In making the prediction, the Thai Industries Federation said the problem was fallout from the global economic downturn.

Federation president, Vallop Vitanakorn, commented that the Eurozone debt crisis and a slowdown in the Chinese economy could have a  considerable impact on Thailand’s exports of textile products and garments this year. New legislation in Thailand stipulating a minimum daily wage of around $9.50 could also have an effect, he said.

Mr Vallop said the decline could be as much as 15%.
