Fabric manufacturers face a struggle in Bangladesh

Sources in Bangladesh say textile producers there are cutting their output by at least 30% owing to a downturn in demand among local garment manufacturers.

At the same time, though, reports say that ready-made garments manufacturers have been sourcing fabric from China and India.

Director of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Ahmed Ali, has told local media that companies that invested in increased capacity following growth in financial year 2010-2011 have been the hardest hit and has called on the government to take action to prevent some fabric manufacturers from going out of business.
